Recognizing Freeform Digital Ink Annotations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Annotations on digital documents have clear advantages over annotations on paper. They can be archived, shared, searched, and easily manipulated. Freeform digital ink annotations add the flexibility and natural expressiveness of pen and paper, but sacrifice some of the structure inherent to annotations created with mouse and keyboard. For instance, current ink annotation systems do not anchor the ink so that it can be logically reflowed as the document is resized or edited. If digital ink annotations do not reflow to keep up with the portions of the document they are annotating, the ink can become meaningless or even misleading. In this paper, we describe an approach to recognizing digital ink annotations to infer this structure, restoring the strengths of more structured digital annotations to a preferable freeform medium. Our solution is easily extensible to support new annotation types and allows us to efficiently resolve ambiguities between different annotation elements in real-time.

DIZI: A Digital Ink Zooming Interface for Document Annotation
Pen computing devices provide a natural interface for annotating documents with freeform digital ink. However, digital ink annotations are usually larger and sloppier than real ink annotations on paper. We present DIZI, a focus+context interface that zooms up a region of the underlying document for inking. Users write in the zoomed region at a comfortable size for the device. When the zoom regi...
متن کاملFreeform digital ink annotations in electronic documents: A systematic mapping study
A variety of different approaches have been used to add digital ink annotations to text-based documents. While the majority of research in this field has focused on annotation support for static documents, a small number of studies have investigated support for documents in which the underlying content is changed. Although the approaches used to annotate static documents have been relatively su...
متن کاملIdentifying Useful Passages in Documents Based on Annotation Patterns
Many readers annotate passages that are important to their work. If we understand the relationship between the types of marks on a passage and the passage’s ultimate utility in a task, then we can design e-book software to facilitate access to the most important annotated parts of the documents. To investigate this hypothesis and to guide software design, we have analyzed annotations collected ...
متن کاملUsing Entropy to Distinguish Shape Versus Text in Hand-Drawn Diagrams
Most sketch recognition systems are accurate in recognizing either text or shape (graphic) ink strokes, but not both. Distinguishing between shape and text strokes is, therefore, a critical task in recognizing hand-drawn digital ink diagrams that contain text labels and annotations. We have found the 'en-tropy rate' to be an accurate criterion of classification. We found that the entropy rate i...

By introducing of digital techniques, forensic document examiners has been encouraged to work with better accuracy in non-destructive ways. The aim of this study was to present a non-destructive, accessible, economic (affordable), user friendly, portable, useful and easy technique for specifying the order of crossing lines of ink stroke and printed text. The intersections of LaserJet and In...
